Transfer

Transfer tooling is used where medium to high volumes are required. Transfer tools are tools that may be individual dies spread across several presses or may be ganged to fit into one press. The parts are transferred by automated transfer arms and the components are picked up by transfer fingers. Typically only one component per blow is manufactured. Typical components made by transfer tooling are larger structural panels and “A” class panels in the automotive industry. Key features of transfer tooling:

  • Material is loaded into the tool from a rectangular or shaped blank

  • Large parts can be produced

  • Parts can be rotated between operations making more complex parts possible.
